PPL Info
Flight Training is carried out towards the Joint Aviation Authority (JAA) Private Pilots License (PPL) which allows you to fly in any country within the European Union. We also offer training for the UK restricted National Private Pilots License (NPPL). More details can be found on the NPPL Website. Whilst you cannot go solo until you are 16, you can start training at a younger age. There is no upper age limit for commencing flight training, but all pilots must be reasonably fit. It is advisable to arrange an appointment with an approved medical examiner who will establish your fitness and if suitable, will issue a Class 2 medical Certificate.
The JAA Syllabus requires students to demonstrate proficiency in 19 flight exercises and to fly a minimum of 45 hours under instruction. However, in practice, the hours taken to gain sufficient competence frequently exceed the minimum. It all depends on ability! Realistically, using one's leisure time, courses can be completed in about one year. In addition to the flying, you must be able to pass 6 technical examinations. All textbooks and equipment you will require for the course are available from the flying school shop.
Your first step should be to arrange a trial lesson by booking through the flying school. This will give you the chance to see if you really like a small aircraft. Afterwards, your instructor will be glad to discuss arrangements for you to commence training.
